In “Something Worth Living For”, Randall Greenwald does an excellent job of not only breaking down the Westminster Shorter Catechism question by question but he also groups them into chapters in order to show the methodical way in which this catechism was created.
This little book is packed full of thoughtful and relatable reflections on the teachings of the catechism. As someone who did not grow up in a confessional church, my first experience of reading through the catechism was a bit overwhelming. For me, it was clear that this was an important document that ministers used to guide their teaching and understanding but it was a little bit too large for me to get my mind around at first.
Greenwald has created an outstanding resource for all categories of people. It is written simply enough that it can be used in family devotionals, for a teen who wishes to understand the catechism better, or even brand-new believers trying to figure out what the catechism is all about.
Whether you use this book for personal devotions or for group discussion in your bible studies or youth groups it will undoubtedly encourage and open up great discussions about what God’s Word has for us and how the Westminster Shorter Catechism helps us think through these things thoughtfully and methodically.
