This book explains and explores in great depth the phenomenon of ‘Christophany’ (an appearing of Christ) in and throughout the Old Testament. The author packs into five short chapters and three accompanying appendixes an extensive amount of critical and exegetical detail regarding this phenomenon. A brief summary at the end of each chapter is very welcome. For me, the most useful chapter was ‘The Theology of the Christophany’ in which he reveals and unpacks the reasons behind the Christophanies and the purpose they serve and the Appendix, ‘Five men who met God face to face: Practical Lessons from the Christophanies’ grounded the theology of the matter in the reality of these character’s lives. If you want a comprehensive study on this most illuminating and fascinating part of the Lord’s life then this is a great book to go to.
