Engaging with Mormons is another in the series of ‘Engaging with…’ books from The Good Book Company. The author, academic and apologist Corey Miller, brings personal knowledge and experience to bear in this book, having spent 16 years as a Mormon believer, growing up as a seventh generation Mormon. But, having discovered the true Gospel as a teenager in America, Miller is passionate that we bring this good news to the lost, and that includes Mormons.

Whether we have Mormon friends or not, the Church of the Latter Day Saints preaches a message which so often seems close to our own. But Miller simply and gently works through the teaching of this false church, exposing the sad truth: the ‘Gospel’ of Mormonism is really no Gospel at all.

This book is not simply, however, a deconstruction of the Mormon claim to truth. Rather, it seeks to equip the reader to be able to offer real hope through conversation and relationship with Mormon believers. Miller offers practical advice, including short case studies and helpful ‘Do and Don’t’ lists, to help the Christian share the good news of the risen Jesus with a cult that twists the truth of Scripture. Miller sets out the teachings of the Mormon church so that the Christian can challenge them in conversation, and he makes plenty of useful suggestions as to how to bring about such discussions.

As a reader who knew only a little about the Mormon faith I found this immensely helpful as a book to equip believers to share our faith with these folk. It was a short and simple read, but it offers a useful toolkit to dip back into when preparing for future conversations with Mormon believers. Miller’s experience and clear heart for these lost people means that this is a book full of grace, clarity, practical advice and ultimately, Gospel hope.
