So, What is the Church? is a great little read from Carine MacKenzie. With simple language and short sentences, Carine explains the local church to her young readers. The church is not a building, or a kind of club, it’s a family, gathered round God’s word and worshipping their saviour.

Concepts such as fellowship, preaching, baptism and communion are all explained simply in this short book, and Carine is careful to include plenty of examples from throughout the Bible so as to show the reader what God’s people look like.

This is a brilliant little book. In a culture where young people are growing up without a solid grounding in what the local church is, and how Christians thrive as members of a local church, this short book will help explain some core Biblical truths in a quick and accessible way. Though not a story book as such, Carine’s simple explanations paired with Fred Apps’ illustrations make this an attractive read that would engage young children with some brilliant and wonderful truths. The author suggests this book would be appropriate to ‘Read to me’ for 4-6, and to ‘Read myself’ for 7-8, and there’s certainly plenty for them to explore.

This book is available to purchase from Christian Focus Publications.
