This little book (100 pages), part of the 'Get Preaching' series produced by Proclamation Trust, is packed full of insight, reflection, direction, example and exhortation to the preacher that when it comes to preaching the Word of God, application is of the essence, and the key to application is Listening: listening to the message as we find it in the Bible, asking the question, ‘what was God saying to them then, and what does that mean for us now?’. The book unpacks that basic premise fully and thoroughly making much of not viewing application as an add-on to exegesis but as integral to the sermon as a whole. There are four chapters to the book, the final chapter being devoted to giving a working example of how to apply the principles taught to passages in the Bible.

A great read and well worth going to again and again.
